Let's face it, road trips with kids will never be an easy task. The days where we could pack an hour before leaving & still manage to get our luggage loaded, fill up on gas, grab a few snacks & down that pre-road trip breakfast since we were actually out of the house before breakfast cut-off. And still make it out of town on time. Long gone!
However, just because we now have an army of tiny humans dictating our road trips, it doesn't mean those trips need to be the nightmare our favorite sitcoms have us believing. With a little bit of planning on our part, those road trips can go rather smoothly! Here are a few Traveling With Kids tips, tricks & hacks to make your next road trip a little less stressful.
I already know what you are thinking, your child is 5 and while yes, they have the occasional accident, they have been pretty much potty trained for a few years now.
I believe it! I have a 5 year old too. But accidents at night and on long road trips, they happen! Just like they do to many other 5 year olds. It’s completely normal and GoodNites are here for us to help make those road trips less messy!
Never heard of GoodNites?
They will be a total game changer in your parenting game since they are used for transitioning from potty training to managing nighttime wetness! Your kiddo will wake up dry with the #1 NightTime Underwear, featuring double leg barriers to help prevent leaks and five layer protection to help keep kids dry all night.

Since GoodNites are phenomenal at keeping kids dry at night, just imagine the super powers they possess on those long road trips! Rest stop 20 miles ahead? One of my favorite perks of being a Sam’s Club member is the Sam's Club Pick-Up service! Living in a small town, not many stores have caught on to the store pick-up trend & being a busy mom on the go? Sam’s Club Pick-Up Service has saved the day many times!
Isn’t it amazing that you can take advantage of Sam’s Clubs already low prices in the comfort of your own living room? Choose the store pickup option & your box of GoodNites will be waiting at your local Club when you have time to pick them up!
Shopping in person is more your thing? Just head to the diaper section of your local Sam’s Club and toss a box of GoodNites into your cart! The fabulous news is, whether you shop online or in person, you will get to enjoy instant savings on Huggies items!!!!
It get better too!!!!
Still not convinced? The new diaper chart will help illustrate the savings available at Sam's Club!!!! Huggies is a brand that moms can trust at a retailer that she can trust!
2. Take Jackets Off
If you’re traveling in the middle of winter, take your kids jackets off. It can get rather uncomfortable wearing a jacket for hours on end! A comfy kid, is a happy kid!
3. Dress In Layers
Mom, I’m hot! Mom, I’m cold! Kids love to go back and forth!!!! Save yourself the headache and dress them in layers. Hot? Unzip that hoodie. Cold? Put it back on!
4. Bathroom Caddy
Place items your kid asks for, in one location. The bathroom caddy! My daughter is always hungry! She’s always thirsty. She’s always bored! So I keep all those items and a few GoodNites handy for those rest stop breaks all in one central place, her bathroom caddy!
5. Mini Plastic Cereal Bins
I’m not sure about your child, but mine makes messes 24/7! A great way to avoid vacuuming your car floor is placing snacks in a mini plastic cereal bin! They can drop the thing as many times as they like and all the crumbs stay inside that bin!
The mini plastic cereal bins also fit right into that bathroom caddy! Your kid can just open the lid and snack away, mess free!
6. Baking Sheets!
Yes, you read that correctly. Baking Sheets! Baking Sheets make the best travel tables!!! Your kid can now do all those table top activities they do at home, in the car! Plus, those bathroom caddy’s just happen to be perfect size to place on top of those baking sheet “tables”.
This tip is really a no-brained, but remember to bring those tablets!!!! Download as many free apps as possible and your child will be entertained for hours!!!
8. Chargers & Headphones
Don’t forget to pack those chargers!!!! Nothing worse than having to buy a new one at a gas station at a ridiculously high price because you forgot your charger at home. Headphones will also save your own ears from whatever background music your child’s tablet is blasting!
9. Cheap Coloring Books
I love stocking up on cheap coloring books when we travel!!!! When those tablets die, Coloring books make a great entertainment backup!! Those baking sheet tables will also once again come in handy once the crayons come out.
10. Pack Your Kids Least Favorite Drink
This little tip will save you a few potty breaks. If you pack your kids favorite juice, they will chug and chug and pee and pee! I know we have GoodNites for backup, but the less we need to use them, the better. Pack your child’s least favorite drink, that way they are only sipping away when they are thirsty and not because they are bored!
11. Seat Back Car Organizers
Bring even more kiddo entertainment, without taking up that valuable space by snapping a seat back car organizer in your car! Let your child load it with their favorite toys for hours and hours of fun!!!
