It's definitely no secret, makeup and I are bff's! Some people love expressing themselves through painting, some people use their voices or even get tattoos. Me? I choose to express myself through my love of makeup!
Nothing drives me more insane than people thinking makeup is for the self- conscious because I strongly believe it's the exact opposite. The true makeup lovers of the world treat makeup as an art form to express themselves & their is not one thing self-conscious about that. It actually takes a lot of guts to try some of the latest looks and rock them in public.
With that being said, I thought I would start a new series focusing on my top favs & this week we are focusing on primers! In no particular order here are my top 5 picks.
My all-time favorite hands down goes to Chanel! I swear the whole makeup line can do no wrong, but did we really think Chanel would put their name on something not totally amazing?!?! Chanel Illuminating Base manages to mattify skin while also providing a fabulous glow without the slightest hint of sparkle or shimmer. If you're a makeup lover you know finding shimmerless primers can be tough! This product also does an amazing job evening out discoloured areas. I'm an ex-tanorexic so that's just an added bonus for my skin! Unfortunately at $48 a pop I very rarely find myself buying this since kids are damn expensive. I usually make the splurge for special occasions or when I need to be looking photo shoot ready. Maybe when I win the lotto I will buy a lifetime supply, but until then let me tell you about Palladio!
The main reason I'm not spending the big bucks on Chanel anymore is because of this right here! I had a makeup artist pull this out of here makeup kit a few years back & I started to clench my teeth. Was she really going to put some non-brand name product on my face?! And I was going to have to shoot in this?! Being the non- confrontational person that I am, I just let her keep doing her thing. I figured I could run to the bathroom and fix my face if it was really that bad. When she was finished I looked in the mirror and it was love at first site! The only product new on my face was the primer so that was totally the thing making my skin poreless! I looked like a doll and I was loving it. People like to say omg filter or photoshop when looking at my personal photos & nope! It is 100% Palladio making my skin poreless. And for $11.99 a bottle at Sally's Beauty, I will be rockin this for life! ~ Warning, this is a thicker primer so if you're not a 24/7 makeup gal, you might want to save this for date night or a girls night out. Your selfies will be looking better than ever.
The most famous primer of all! I swear girls that don't wear makeup have heard of Photo Finish due to it's loyal following. I will say this primer definitely deserves all the buzz it gets. It leaves your skin glowing without a sticky feeling & you can even mix it in foundations to get an added fabulous affect. The only reason this isn't my all time favorite is because back before online shopping & Ultas took over the world, I had to drive to the whole other side of Orlando (where I was living) to buy it. So I didn't buy it that often since I4 traffic was a total nightmare & as a result fell in love with other primers ;-) At $36 I think every girl should see what the hype is about! I can tell you it won't be money wasted on another bunk product.
Mac Prep + Prime is what I always suggest to makeup newbies! Mac is a safe brand and you know you're getting your money's worth. Plus most makeup artist use this stuff religiously so you know it has to be good if the pros dig it. This classic promotes even skin tone and it noticeably reduces oiliness. Whenever I'm traveling anywhere hot and humid this is the primer I pack since it keeps my makeup looking fresh. At $31 you're definitely getting a quality product :)
Last, but not least, let me introduce you to NYX Pore Filler! This is a primer I just recently discovered thanks to a friend making the recommendation after hearing about my love for Palladio. I decided since it was only $13 I would give it a try. NYX Pore Filler gives your skin an ultra-smooth, porcelain-like finish & is a total steal at $13! Only downfall is that you do need to let it dry on your skin before applying foundation or power making this not really ideal for everyday use for me. I'm usually in such a rush that I just don't have the time to wait for the primer to dry. If you have the time to wait, then definitely give it a try! You can't go wrong for $13!
