Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood App Review
This post is part of a sponsored campaign with Giants Are Small and MomSelect. Regardless of monetary compensation, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Classical music has been a timeless component of history and culture. I have always had a strange fascination with this particular genre of music. It's what sparked my love affair with my flute & trumpet when I was in middle/high school & college. It is also what made me go into my freshman year of college as a music major thinking a career in music education was the career route for me. I might of ended my college years with a degree in history/political science, but my love for music will never fade & will always have a place in my heart.

What breaks my heart these days is most kiddos don't get the exposure they should to classical music. With music programs slowly being taken away from schools across the nation, it really isn't suprising. Unless a parent has a crazy obsession with music like myself, your child just isn't being exposed to classical music because it just doesn't cross your mind. I know it would never cross my hubby's if it wasn't for me ;-)

With that being said, how fantastic would it be if your child could have a classical music experience right at their fingertips? Regardless if your school teaches music or not, acclaimed production company, Giants Are Small has created an app called Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood that can give your child a classical music experience right in your very own home.
Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood App Review
Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood is a revival of the classic Peter and the Wolf tale. This version brings Peter to Hollywood to meet his hippie grandfather while bringing classical music elements to life. The music is performed by The National Youth Orchestra of Germany & Peter, along with all of the characters in the movie book, are narrated and brought to life by Rock n’ Roll legend, Alice Cooper.

I let my daughter test this app out one day after school & she was instantly engrossed. Then again what kiddo doesn't enjoy the story line of this classic tale?!?

The Deluxe iPad app can be downloaded for only $4.99 and has several features that kids will really just enjoy.

Picture
The story in total is 50 minutes long & includes a behind the scenes look at how the app was made. Neat Fact: all visuals were handmade. Like isn't that the ultimate DIY or what?!?!

If you get the iPad Delux vesion it also includes 8 games your kiddo can play.

Madison isn't really into classical music but she does love music. I try to do a mixture of music, however I try and keep her away from what is now considered rap and what I call nonsense. As for the music programs and schools, I'm grateful that I live in a state where they still embrace music in schools and it's part of the curriculum here.

Classical music is such a beautiful genre that is often ignored especially by the youth. I'm glad that they are doing a revival on this classic. That's really good for kids!

Until you mentioned this app, I had forgotten all about it, but I had a record of Peter and the Wolf when I was a child. I can't even tell you how many times I listened to it. I think if you expose your children, they will eat it up!

I've been a fan of classical music since I was a kid (since my mom was/is a teacher, she made sure to expose my sister and I to all kinds of cultures and genres and music!). This sounds like such a great app. Anything that helps expose kids to classic music is a-okay in my book <3

I also have a fascination with classical music. I think you should really introduce this app to your children.
I had really fun learning games on my old win 98 :D And I learned a lot.
So this is actually such a great idea. I hope this app goes places.

I grew up listening to classical music. I think my Mom took me to every one of the children's theater productions back then. She also had plenty6 of classical music playing around the apartment! My Dad liked more modern music so I learned to love both. I still remember the haunting music from Peter and the Wolf many many years later!! This is an app that is totally necessary now that a lot of schools don't have music classes anymore.

This is a very good idea on how to introduce children to classical music. Indeed in these days there is no way they can encounter it unless a parents guides them towards it. When I was in school we used to have music lessons where we learned about notes and parts. But I don't think that's valid in these days.
