This is the first year since my daughter was born that I'm not cooking up that deliciousness Turkey Day dinner!! As much as I'm looking forward to a year off from all the stresses that come a long with hosting such an epic holiday meal, I must admit I sorta miss all the planning!!! Knowing Thanksgiving is days away and I'm not running around like a crazy person making sure I have everything ready to out do my last years self just feels all sorts of goofy & like I'm forgetting to do things since I now have all this "free time".
Since I know many of you are in the process of making this Turkey Day and epic event for your family, I thought I would pass on a few of my very own Thanksgiving Dinner Hacks!
1~ Keep your gravy lump free!
Add quick mixing flour instead of all purpose flour when making your gravy!
2~ Always go with a Pinot Nior!
Light, fruity and pairs well with that turkey and all the fixings!!
3~ Sweet Potatoes
Instead of an hour in the oven, six minutes in the microwave will give you the same results.
4~ Extra Cranberries?
Put a spoonful in a champagne flute and top with some bubbly to make a delicious after dinner Bellini!
5~ Chill a bottle of wine quickly.
Toss a bowl of ice with a few handfuls of salt. Place your wine bottle into a pot, or similar container, and pour over with the ice. Next, fill the pot with ice cold water to the neck of the bottle. Your wine will be chilled within 10 minutes.
6~ Purchase a 3-tier oven rack
If you know you can't prepare the sides and dessert ahead of time, this is the hack for you!!!! Recommended places: Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walmart, and Williams-Sonoma.
7 ~ Prep all your veggies a day or two ahead and keep them in the fridge.
Peel those potatoes and carrots, chop onions, wash greens, and do basically any other prep steps called for in the recipes you're using. This is the kind of thing that will feel crazy when you're doing it, and AWESOME the next day when you realize you already did.
8~ Set the table the night before
You will thank yourself when you have 10 minutes before your guest start showing up and haven't had a second to even think about the dinning room! A sigh of relief when you remember you took care of the tablescape the night before!
Are you hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year?
