I HATE the word budget! Like really REALLY hate it!!! Life would be so much easier if that lil'word just didn't exist. But since I am yet to win the lotto due to the last Powerball winner being in Cali & my blog hasn't quite reached Forbes Magazine status, budget it is if the 3 of us want to continue having fabulously shiny things!
One thing that drives me absolutely bonkers is the fact most people associate the word fabulous with ridiculous spending! Yes, in my younger days I had a habit of not looking at price tags. I'm pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say, when it's only you you're shopping for, it's too easy not to. Now that I'm shopping for 3? Yes,price tags do matter, but I can honestly say if you shop around enough, you can still have that fabulosity in your life! No you don't have to now shop at Walmart for everything now that you gained a kiddo or two! I repeat DO NOT!
My parents tell me all the time I should make one of those "ebook Kindle thingies" about how one can be fabulous on a budget since I mange to do so pretty well. The only thing holding me back is the fact I can't write or spell.... Two very important elements when launching a book!
With that being said I have decided to do the second best thing & start sharing some of my budget- friendly fabulousness on da blog & prove one can still be fabulous while counting pennies. If I can do it, anyone can. The goal is to hopefully convert as many of you as possible to the fabulous side ;-) No reason for you or your bank account to fear the word fabulosity ever again.
This my friends is my daughters puzzle collection! Some little girls, including me a million years ago, enjoy Barbies, or I guess it's Monster High these days. Others are a tad bit nerdier, like my daughter and love puzzles and anything problem solving!
Since I am all about letting my princess do what she wants to spark creativity, I let her embrace the dorky side and we play with puzzles A LOT! In tutus of course. She did thankfully inherit my fashion sense ;-)
Have to admit though, having a nerdy child is kinda cool! Who would of ever thought? At 3 she amazes me daily with her brain power.. It would be pretty rad if Haylie grew up to become some famous engineer creating on of the worlds most fabulous new landmarks or cured cancer with her problem solving skills. Nerds do rule the world after all so anything is possible. #GirlPower
Only problem with owning every puzzle known to person is how do you store them?!?! I have spent countless hours on Pinterest to only discover nothing fabulous for puzzle storage! Ziplock baggies just won't cut it for this mama! Even after placed in the bag where does the puzzle go?!? Problem NOT solved! Only thing that changed was the fact I now have a pile of baggies to hit and not puzzles -_-
Then one day it hit me on a trip to Big Lots. Yes you heard me correctly. If you're a blogger and don't hit up the kitchen & home section for blog props, you're doing your blog photo shoots wrong ;-) Anyway, while strolling the kitchen isles for props I saw cute Tiffany teal and damask printed cubbys in the distance. And the even better part, the cubbys, $4.99 a piece & the shelf they had sitting conveniently next to these fabulous looking things, $29.99!!!! I instantly thought "This Is It"! The answer to our homes puzzle storage problem. Just one issue though?! Would the puzzles fit?
I immediately went home & started googling cubbys & puzzles and came up with nothing! So I decided to take a risk and go back to Big Lots and buy the thing and keep my fingers crossed the smaller puzzles would fit! And thankfully yay!!!!!! After watching my non handy man hubby curse every horrible word ever while assembling the shelf. It was only $29.99 so it definitely came in 262890 pieces. The puzzles fit perfectly. And even at a slight angle making it easy to grab new puzzles out of the cubbies.
The bigger puzzles I already knew wouldn't fit, so we just placed those ones on top! So for a total of $44.96, Haylie's puzzles now have a forever home!!! And when she outgrows wooden puzzles, I'm sure this storage fabulosity can transform into a home for whatever stem related toys she's into next.
While on that same Big Lots trip, I also happened to stumble across a pretty sweet & perfectly matching table as well! Usually wooden tables have very high price tags. This fabulous table? $49.99 AND IT CAME PRE-ASSEMBLED!!!! Snatched that up as well! The table Haylie had prior I spend the same price on at Walmart & it was metal, plastic & just a giant eye sore! Made me cringe every time I looked at it! Just proving once again we must price shop before making purchases. You just never know where you might find fabulousness.
So there you have it folks! Fabulosity on a budget!!! Told you, you can be fabulous and not spend a million dollars. You can even add fun accessories like fur rugs and plants at these types of prices for not that much more. Just hit up TJ Maxx and you will be shocked when you see that $10 price tag for fur ;-) Hope I inspired you to be more fabulous!
