For being as high maintenance as I am, believe it or not I HATE all salons! Hair, nail, doesn't matter what kind, I rather be somewhere else. Cannot stand the places and all the pointless small talk. I do love me a pretty set of nails so salons can't be totally avoided since I lack nail tech skills lol...
I've had many friends talk about the home gel manicure kits & how the kits have turned them into salon dodgers! In the long run they ended up saving tons of money from doing there own retouches & repaint jobs at home in between nail sets. Sounded pretty amazing to me, but the kits I saw at Sephora were between $150 and $200 and I couldn't help but think what if they didn't work that well??? With a very expensive toddler at home that is a lot of money to have wasted, so I stuck to my every other week nail appointments since it was the safer route.
I was sent America's #1 Selling Gel Nail Polish manicure kit to review!!!
From the looks of it, it was exactly what I’ve been waiting to try, but better since celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Kristen Bell, Queen Latifah, Opra, The Cast of Pretty Little Liars & The Cast of Glee all use this Couture Nails kit!!!
The "Starter kit" I was sent comes with gel base and topcoat, one nail polish color (your choice, I chose "Skinny Dip"), LED lamp, remover, an instructional dvd,zip cosmetic case and a buffer, toe separator, and plastic cuticle pusher. The kit retails for $99.
I followed the instructions that came with the kit and started by prepping my nails. I removed the polish I had on and lightly buffed the surface of the nail. Next, I applied the base coat in a very thin layer and cured it for 30 seconds in the lamp. I applied two coats of the "skinny dip" color, curing in between each coat. The directions say to use two coats, but I found the color to be sorta sheer, so I ended up doing three coats, which isn't surprising since skinny dip in a tan shade and most light colored polishes need afew coats no matter what the brand is! Finally, I applied the topcoat and cured that. The LED light seems pretty sturdy & it has settings to cure your gel for increments of 30 seconds. After the final cure, I used the remover to remove the tacky layer, and the polish was immediately hard and shiny – and that was it!
So simple if you are use to getting your nails done! The hardest part was taking the picture of my nails, which ugghhhhh... I don't know how you girls do it because that was hard work!
